2021 Goals – Inspired by Malala Yousafzai

Last week I read the biography of Malala Yousafzai. After reading, I went onto Goodreads to rate it. Malala is a hero and role model to me. She is strength and humility. She is intelligence and bravery. After dropping my 5 star rating, I read some of the book reviews.

Some people from her home country, and village were calling her a fraud. Accusing her of wanting fame, and money. They said she lied in her account of girls education in Pakistan.

For crying out loud, the girl risked her life to be an activist for education, she was shot in the head by the Taliban, and almost lost her life. She has been disfigured, and has been through multiple risky operations. She had to exile in a foreign country for safety, away from the home, school and friends she loved. And these people say she is faking it. I then also saw there are pages on Facebook saying they hate her.

And I thought to myself… If Malala, who is an innocent, traditional, God-fearing, young girl can be criticized, even after being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, then really, who won’t people criticize?!

No matter what you do in life, you cannot please everyone or make everyone happy. People will judge you, and hate you no matter what you do. People will accuse you, people will not believe you. People will disrespect, and defame you.

Like Malala, I will continue to speak and stand up for what I believe in. Critics are not going to stop me from sharing the truth about abuse in all its forms. Malala continues moving forward with her goals despite the opposition. She continues to inspire me! She is amazing!
